How to build a suspended plasterboard ceiling (step by step)
A suspended plasterboard ceiling is built on a grid of CD 60/27 and UD 28/27 profiles, hung from the structural ceiling. You need: CD 60/27 and UD 28/27 profiles, hangers/rods, CRAB connectors, plasterboard, screws and wall plugs. Calculate the quantities with the materials calculator.
- Mark the levelMark the false-ceiling line around the walls using a spirit or laser level.
- Fit the UD profiles around the perimeterFix the UD 28/27 profiles along the marked line with plugs every ~50 cm.
- Attach the hangersFix the hangers/rods to the structural ceiling with plugs, spaced max. ~90 cm.
- Mount the CD load-bearing profilesAttach the CD 60/27 profiles to the hangers ~1 m apart and level them to the marked line.
- Add the cross profilesJoin extra CD profiles perpendicularly with CRAB connectors, forming a grid.
- Board with plasterboardFix the boards with screws every ~17–20 cm, staggering the joints; ceilings often use 9.5 mm boards (lighter).
- Finish the jointsApply reinforcing tape and filler, sand once dry, then prime and paint.
